10 Authors to Watch in 2017
2016 was a year full of literary success, introducing many indie newcomers on to the scene and seeing a number of old favorites come back with more great reads. As this year draws to a close, start the season off right with a list of must-reads for the coming new year. Here’s a collection of 10 authors we’re looking forward to spending some quality time with in 2017.
Jasmine Walt @jasmine_writes (Fantasy)
Jasmine Walt wowed us all last year with a number of new additions to her series, The Baine Chronicles, taking us on one fantasy adventure after another. The latest installment, Deceived by Magic (the sixth installment) is set for release at the end of the month. If Walt keeps this pace up, it doesn’t look like Sunaya and Iannis are ever going to get a break between missions—all the better for us fans! Walt is certainly an author to keep an eye on in 2017.
Jonathan Dunne @WriterJDunne (Contemporary)

It should come as no surprise that Dunne’s novels are consistently at the top of the ranks for Indie reads. His latest release, Lighthouse Jive, tells the story of characters anybody can relate to: people looking to get away from it all, only to find hijinks and mystery around every corner. Dunne’s signature storytelling style draws the reader in, and if we’re lucky, keeps everyone entertained well throughout the coming year!
Rebecca Hamilton @InkMuse (Fantasy)
Hamilton has been taking readers on sensual, paranormal adventures for a while now. Her latest character, Detective Brooke Chandler from Shadows of Salem, is still new to us, but this collaboration with Jasmine Walt looks promising! With the release of the second book at the end of October, we’re already hungry for more and excited to see where Hamilton will take us in 2017.
Erin Watt @authorerinwatt (Young Adult)
It is safe to say that 2016 was an incredible year for author Erin Watt, with her series The Royals skyrocketing to #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list. So who exactly is Erin Watt, the woman behind the pen? She’s none other than the creative brainchild of authors Jen Frederick (@JenSFred) and Elle Kennedy (@ElleKennedy). We already knew that Frederick and Kennedy could bring us captivating stories respectively, but these creative, chaotic, and purely addictive tales from Watt are what we want more of this next year!
Angela Fristoe @afristoe (Paranormal)
If you’re looking for more information about Fristoe and her novels, look no further than her website! There you’ll find a three-chapter excerpt of her upcoming release, Winter Souls, a tale of romance and fantasy. If that’s not enough to whet your appetite for 2017, Fristoe has a lot more up her sleeve. The Fallen Sorcery Collections, a collaboration between 16 award-winning authors, declares itself as belonging to the Dystopian Paranormal Romance category. Billed as a top secret project, Fristoe promises readers more information on this spicy collection come Spring 2017. The perfect segue from winter into summer!
Christopher Greyson @Chris_Greyson (Mystery, Thriller)
Detective Jack Stratton comes back in late 2016 in Greyson’s latest thriller, And Then She Was Gone. Rumor has it that he won’t be taking any breaks, with Jack of Hearts set for release any day now. For fast-paced mysteries that’ll keep you on your toes, keep a close watch on Greyson in 2017 as he is sure not to disappoint.
Vivian Arend @VivianArend (Romance)
2016 was one hot, hot year at the Six Pack Ranch! With installment ten having been released in late September, fans are already itching for more. The standalone nature of Arend’s books makes them an easy grab-and-go that never fails to provide a satisfying ending. If you’ll be doing any traveling in 2017 or perhaps enjoying a little bit of down time at home, don’t forget to bring these endearing and sexy characters along for the ride.
Bethany Claire @BClaireAuthor (Historical Romance)
Bethany Claire launches her readers into the sexy and sultry world of time travel where anything is possible. Set in the Scottish Highlands, this storyteller brings all of her hunks and the resulting romance alive and in full force. The Morna’s Legacy series was quiet in 2016 though—could that mean there’s something big in the works for 2017? Either way, let these stories whisk you away to an otherworldly Scotland to cool any winter blues.
Robert Bryndza @RobertBryndza (Crime Fiction)
The Detective Erika Foster books kept readers on the edge of their seats in 2016 with nearly back-to-back releases. If you haven’t read these gripping thrillers yet, jump on the wagon and get ready because it looks like Bryndza won’t be stopping anytime soon! If you need something lighter for 2017, Bryndza’s leading lady Coco Pinchard should do just the trick.
Janel Gradowski @JanelGr (Mystery)
Summer 2016 saw the launch of Book 5 in the Culinary Competition Mysteries, titled Banana Muffins & Mayhem. A standalone read full of well-developed characters, this cozy mystery certainly won’t disappoint if you haven’t devoured it already! And even if you have, there are a number of delectable recipes to try from the comfort of your own kitchen. Do you think you’d beat Amy in the baking contest? Here’s to hoping that Gradowski can whip up another blue ribbon in 2017.
Romance, thrillers, science fiction… what’s your preferred flavor for 2017?
Happy Reading!
